The PT8 fires a special 9mm round

The P7PT8 "Plastik Training"

One could easily think of the P7PT8 as the precursor to the Simunition family of training kits that make conventional weapons capable of man on man training. Differently however, this is a P7 purely dedicated to training and incapable of firing a conventional 9mm cartridge. The PT8 fires a special 9mm round made by Geco that is anything but non-lethal for man on man training that is possible with Simunition FX rounds. The PT was never intended to be used against human targets.

With an unbelievable muzzle velocity of nearly 3000 feet per second, and a similarly unbelievable slam-on-the-brakes velocity falloff at 50 meters to zero, the PT8 is purely an enigma. Meant for less expensive yet realistic close range training, the idea of spending the additional money for P7s that are range bound forever seems to lack marketability. Nonetheless, the PT8 is one of the more obscure members of the P7 family that bears mention.

The 8 in PT8 refers to the magazine capacity. The gun was designed and produced in 1982-83, and only 187 examples were ever manufactured. It featured the floating chamber reminiscent of the P7K3 as well, for function with the special ammunition. This is the same ammunition that the MP5PT was designed for.
